Sledge Chef's quick oatmeal porridge

Cooking should not take too much time. This oatmeal porridge takes 5 minutes to make.

Oats are one of our most nutritious cereals, with polyunsaturated fat, fiber, carbohydrates and minerals. And it's cheap. Dietary fiber is extremely important for digestion!

Ok, so maybe you've got hooked on some sort of diet, many of which say you should avoid carbohydrates. This is bullshit.

Carbohydrates and carbohydrates are at least two different things. Stay away from refined sugar, limit your intake of juices with a lot of fruit sugar, but instead eat wholegrain bread, an apple or an orange.

The porridge

Take some Quick-Cooking Oats in a pot. You need less than you think as they swell a lot. Do not use any of that instant porridge stuff. Throw in some seeds. I use sunflower and pumpkin seeds.

If you like nuts, it's great to mix in. But they should be crushed so you don't have to chew so much, and easier to digest. Hazelnuts and walnuts are fine.

Seeds and nuts are good for you. They have lots of unsaturated fat, fiber, vitamins and minerals. Again, forget weird diets. Fats, and especially polyunsaturated and unsaturated fats, are super important! You should be careful with animal fat, while fish fat is good.

Eat this porridge daily and you will live to be a hundred years old. Or perhaps more importantly, you will become a fit old man. (These claims are made without guarantee, but still with a significant probability.)

For the porridge, I use cultured low-fat milk. Yogurt is also good, but stay away from those with added sugar or artificial sweeteners. On the whole, I'd rather choose sugar than artificial sweeteners. There is some scum that destroys the bacterial flora in the gut.

A bit of the maybe obvious

So discard all possible silly diets and focus on this one: A varied diet consisting of whole grain products, some nuts and berries, vegetables, fish and some meat. Moderate with dairy products, especially those with a high fat percentage. Preferably use cultured. Cultured milk contains bacteria that are beneficial for the gut. In addition, milk sugar is changed to lactic acid during the fermentation. This is beneficial, especially for people with lactose intolerance.

Avoid as much as possible carbohydrates that you find in pure sugar and products that contain this, i.e. mineral water, chocolate etc. Of course you can treat yourself on Saturday, but like everything else, show moderation!

Meat and fish contain proteins and vitamins you need, and some can only be found there. Eat lots of fish and moderate amounts of meat. Steer clear of heavily processed products such as minced meat etc. But again, treat yourself to a burger or sausage once in a while if you like it.

Vegetarians will object. But the truth is that we humans have two eyes that look ahead and teeth like the pig; we are predators and omnivores.
